I want a wife

1. Does this essay have an explicitly stated thesis? If so, what is it? If you believe the thesis is implied, paraphrase it in your own words.
I believe this essay does have an explicitly stated thesis. “As I thought about him while I
was ironing one evening, it suddenly occurred to me that I, too, would
like to have a wife. Why do I want a wife? “ I believe the thesis is implied because, she’s clearly stating what she wants, and then leads into why she actually wants it.
2. Throughout the essay, Brady repeats the words “I want a wife.” What is the effect of this repetition?
The words “I want a wife.” are repeated in the essay several times, in my opinion, to show the selfishness behind why some men want a wife, and what they feel should automatically come with having a wife.
3. Brady never uses the personal pronouns he or she to refer to the wife she defines. Why not?
Again, I feel that the reasoning behind Brady using the term “ My wife” instead of “she” is meant to show the control and power some husbands feel they have towards their wives.
4. Do you think Brady really wants the kind of wife she describes—does this ideal spouse
actually exist? Explain why you think Brady wrote this essay.
I don’t believe that Brady wants to be the kind of wife being described at all, In fact there’s a hint of sarcasm in her writing that suggests that she wrote this essay to show what she feels is unfair about what is expected from wives. In reality

5. How does Brady define what it means to be a “wife”? How does she organize the many services a wife provides her husband and family? What do you think of Brady’s characterization of a wife and her responsibilities? How do you think she wants her readers to respond to this characterization? Why?
What it means to be a “wife” according to Brady in a sarcastic point of view is someone who should basically put her family above herself in an excessive sense. In reality I feel that she believes a wife should put her family above everything, but also showing self-respect and pushing herself farther in life as well. I think she wants her readers to realize that .

Dear Judy Brady,
In your essay “I Want a Wife” I admired a lot about the way you went about your writing. First off , I’d just like to applaud you on the message your trying to get across. Even though it’s not a written out opinion, I hear it loud and clear. The way you repeat the saying ”I want a Wife”, in my opinion is pure genius. I can clearly see that behind everything you’ve written in your essay, there is obviously a supposed status Que set for wives in our culture. For example when you say “And, of course, I want a wife who will not demand sexual attention when I am not in the mood for it. I want a wife who
assumes the complete responsibility for birth control, because I do not
want more children.” , to me, is you trying to show that some men just automatically assume women should be fully willing to give and provide to anything their spouse would like, regardless of how they would be effected by doing it. I really enjoyed the way you went about getting your point across of just how ridiculous this subject really is.
Yours Truly,
Peter Vaccarella

Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving break went by way to fast.  The first day was a relaxing day, I spent most of it helping my parents prepare for Thanksgiving dinner which was at my house this year.  On Thanksgiving day my whole family came over and we had a blast.  We played apples to apples, which I never won...  We ate dinner at 2:30 because we were all starving which messed up my whole eating schedule for the rest of the day.  The rest of my break was pretty bland and I wish I would have done more with my time.

Fairy Tale Shrek

Exaggeration/Parady- When Fiona was fighting the bad guys she was insanly good and could freeze time to fix her hair.

Incongruity- When the girl was saving the day instead of the guy

Reversal- I did not see any reversal in the story

Halloween Yo

The night was sluggish, we had been trapped in a corn maze since the clock struck noon.  The only food I had eaten so far was apple pie, which wasn't sitting well because of all the zombie drool that coated it.  I had my suspicions, but I have starving because a witch cursed me with hunger.  We for sure thought we were gonna bleed out before we escaped the maze but a mirical occured.  A friendly ghost named Casper saved us from the potental gourd of punishment.  When a vampire came into the picture, Casper yelled, "I'm saving these kids! SWAG!"  That was what my dream was about last night.

I say, They say; Letter from Birmingham

1. They say why are we using direct action? For example instead of marches or protestets we should try to negotiate on a fair and even solution.  King Jr wants to build tension in the public so in a way it'll force a negotiation.

2. They ask " Why didn't you give the new city administration time to act?" King Jr says the mayor is a big fan of segregation and wants to keep things the way they already are.

3. They say that the activitys in Birminingham are to crazy and it's forever changing the normal. King Jr says that if the blacks weren't segregated to start with then they wouldn't have been forced to do it.

4. They say that outsiders are coming in, while King Jr is saying that this is the only choice they have. Unfortunatly, it is a shame because of the extreme actions that need to be taken to get change.

5. Whites say that they want everything to stay the same while King Jr won't stop until everybody, no matter what race or skin color, is treated equally.

Reading Exercises

1. The sport Lacrosse is still unknown to most people in todays society.  They see this sport as just another violent sport with no meaning.  However, most people play the sport just for that reason.  On the contrary, many of the players who arnt aware of how violent the sport actually is, end up quiting because of just that.  For the truth of the matter, I believe this sport is very exilerating because of the violence in ensues.  In this essay, the sport of lacroose will be fully analyzed so people can realize the wonders it creates.

2. In the Introduction to "They Say/ I say": The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing, Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein provide templates designed to ensure that the reader understands and can recreate a writing piece that is academiclly "correct".  As the authors themeselves put in, "There words of wisdom."  Although some people believe that restating the question is the key to success, Graff and Birkenstein insist that anwsering everything that is stated in the question is the most important.  I agree.  In my view, the types of templates that the authors recommend is the most important.  Some might object, of course, on the grounds that they have a strong opinion and dont want to be told otherwise.  Overall, then, I believe that the experts should be trusted, nad their information should be valid --an important point to make given.

The Power to Forget

This man believes in forgetting a troubling instance in your life instead of forgiving who was at fault.  This makes so much sense that I'm dissappointed I have never thought of it.  Holding a grudge on somebody is the worst thing somebody can do because it has the potential to bring the worst out of that person.  In some cases, like the one in the story, things can't be forgiven and the only way to move on is to forget it ever happened.
